Step 1: Choosing a pet photographer

Choosing a pet photographer for your beloved fur-babies is perhaps the most important step of the entire process! Ask yourself these crucial questions:

Have they worked with animals before? Is pet photography their primary business, or is it a small addition to their current photography business? Do you like their photography?

If for instance you get a referral to a photographer and you don’t particularly care for their photography, you may end up disappointed with your resulting photos. Artwork like photography is subjective and every photographer has his or her own creative style. It may be difficult for a photographer to make his or her photos look like someone else’s. Most photographers would be happy to refer you to someone that is more up your alley!

Step 2: Book your session

Check out our Schedule page and choose a date that works for you! A $50 non-refundable deposit will be required to hold your date. We only have one session per day, and we reserve this spot for you, so please give us 48 hours notice to cancel a session! If we manage to fill your session, we will refund your deposit.

Step 3: Choosing and prepping a photo session location

If you have a cat that does not go outside, inside your home will probably be the only option. If you have a dog that is fearful, they will probably feel most comfortable at home as well.

We recommend if possible home and a nice park or urban area near home (as to not eat up your session time with travel). We will provide a long line for your pup so they cannot run away or get hurt, but it is easily removed out of the photo during processing.

If you choose your home and/or your yard, some prep may be necessary before the session. For instance, removing clutter is essential! If clutter is removed beforehand, it allows us more time for taking photos!

Collecting favorite beds, blankets and toys beforehand will also save time. Once we arrive to your home, we will take a peek around and choose areas with lots of natural light – near big bright windows! So, take some time de-cluttering these areas – making beds, etc.

Take special notice as to what time of day your favorite rooms have the best window light.

Dog parks seem like the obvious choice, however, sometimes getting great photos at a dog park can be difficult. Your dog is very distracted and odds are that someone else's dog will make an appearance in more than one of your photos!

Step 4: What to wear for your session

Although we do not specialize in photographing people, and they are never the focus of our work, they can make it into shots while capturing a candid moment. So, it’s best to be prepared!

Wearing denim skirts or jeans and a light coloured, plain top is usually the best option. After all, we want people to notice YOU, not that crazy sweater you got for Christmas!

Take special notice of footwear and foot care. We frequently remove shoes, so make sure your feet are presentable! After all – your pets spends most of their time at your feet!

Step 5: You wait…

Once the session has ended, you will receive a few “sneak peeks” via our blog www.brindleberryblog.com shortly after your session. Within 14 days your photos will be uploaded to your password protected gallery.

Step 6: View your gallery

You will receive your password and for three weeks* your photos will be available for viewing and sharing. Feel free to send your link to everyone! Get their opinions, and then choose your photos!

*Extra fees may apply for extending your gallery availability time

Step 7: Order your prints

Once you have chosen your photos, time to choose your prints, print sizes, and any other options you may desire like photo books and canvas prints. A 50% deposit will be required prior to us placing your order.

Step 8: Your prints are delivered

Depending on what you order, your order will usually be ready for pick-up/drop-off/delivery in 10-25 days. Gallery and framed prints take longer to process. If you are in a hurry to receive your prints, a rush fee may apply to your order.

Step 9: Enjoy your prints!

For years to come you will be very pleased that you made the decision to have a private session! Friends and family will oooo and ahhh over your photos and they will serve as a timeless memorial of your furry family!

Step 10: Reorder – again and again!

You will be provided with a proof disk with your prints – making it easy to order more prints in the future when you require more!
