The Photographer

My name is Holly and I am the owner and photographer of “BrindleBerry - Custom Pet Photography”– previously known as “Mutt Shots Photography”. I started Mutt Shots in 2005 as a hobby business because I love photography, and I love animals! What a great match!

When Mutt Shots was born, there were very few other pet photographers in my area. In fact, I think there were two including me! Now, 7 years later, there are more and more pet photographers as this niche market becomes more popular.

In 2011 “Mutt Shots Photography” became “BrindleBerry - Custom Pet Photography” to better reflect our current style and philosophies.

What sets me apart? Well, I have been working and studying dogs in some form or another for almost a decade. I have worked as an assistant dog trainer, taken courses on everything from animal communication, to alternative healing and dog behavior and body language.

I have recently begun volunteering on the membership committee and as a recruitment coordinator with HeARTs Speak. HeARTs Speak is an organization dedicated to uniting photographers and other artists on a mission to increase animal adoptions through professional photography. I LOVE this organization and it’s been wonderful to meet so many other like-minded photographers working toward such a BIG and important cause.

You will find me find me happiest when photographing adoptable animals and donating photography for organizations such as The Calgary Humane Society, AARCS, and ARF. I hope to be adding more organizations to this list in the near future!

The Photography

“100% all natural”, I use natural light whenever possible, and my natural surroundings as my backdrop. Photographing pets without formal posing or excessive props ensures they are their natural, adorable, and genuine selves! I even use ONLY all natural treats during our photo session!

I enjoy creating authentic, colourful, and stylish images and artwork featuring your furry companions all while keeping them comfortable, safe, and happy!

What I DON’T do is your traditional formal, family photography. It is not my strong suite and there are so many other photographers more qualified in this type of photography and I would be happy to help you find one! The humans that do make it into my photos are always open to my zany ideas, and are happy to take a backseat to their pet. Or, perhaps I found a candid moment that they didn’t even know they were having with their pet!
